They are used to connect two shafts to make a permanent joint and usually are designed to be capable of transmitting the full load capacity of the shaft. This coupling has no flexibility, either torsional, angular, or axial, hence it is limited to those installations where rigid connections are suitable, particularly in line shafts and extension shafts.
